SML - Summer Learning Journey, week 1 day 1

SML - Summer Learning Journey, week 1 day 1
Australia
Day 1 – Choosing a destination
The world is a very big and very cool place. There are currently 196 countries and approximately 7.1 billion people living on earth. For this project we are going to focus on just 10 countries across 6 continents – Canada (North America), Mexico (Central America), Chile (South America), England (Europe), Germany (Europe), South Africa (Africa), United Arab Emirates (Middle East), Japan (Asia), Malaysia (South-East Asia), and Australia (Australasia).
Please click on the World Map tab on the main menu. It will bring you to a big map. One by one click on the names of the countries and ready the ‘Quick Facts’ about each place.

Activities
Activity 1
After you have read the quick facts about each place you must choose ONE country that you would like to ‘visit.’ On your blog post the name of the country and tell us why you have chosen to visit it. Please give, at least, two reasons for choosing the country.

The reason why I choose Australia because it's has lots of things that new Zealand don’t mostly have. Example: kangaroos (wallabies). I want to experience more facts about Australia mostly there ancient. Also the population size currently is 24.2 million people.

Activity 2
On Google, research the country that you have chosen to visit and write, in your own words, three interesting facts about that country. They must be facts that weren’t already provided on the World Map.

Australia facts:
Location - Australia is an island country that is located deep down in the pacific ocean of the west of new Zealand.
National sports -  The national sports of Australia mostly likely to be played is, netball (girl sports), rugby union, rugby league, cricket and Australian rules football.
Population size: currently the population size is 24.2 million people

  1. Hi Loto!! Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey programme. I am SOOOOO excited that you have joined us and I'm sorry for the late reply. I didn't see your name on our registration page so hadn't checked your blog until now. My apologies!

I have now added your name to our list and both Mark and I will look forward to blogging with you over the next month.

I love that you've chosen to visit Australia. It is such a cool place to visit! I find it really interesting that so much of the population of Australia lives around the edges of the country (close to the oceans). The middle of Australia is virtually empty. I wonder what it would be like to live in the middle of Australia and be so far away from large cities and so far from the water. Do you think that you would like to live in the middle of a desert?

I am really excited to read all of your blogs, Loto. Keep up the awesome work!

    Cheers,
    Rachel :)

  2. Kia ora Loto!

I'm Mark, a teacher working for the Summer Learning Journey with Rachel. WOW! It is amazing to see how much work you have already done! I am really going to have to keep my eye on you and make sure to keep up with your progress!

It seems pretty amazing that Australia has so many people. I am looking forward to learning more about it on your journey. I did used to live on the Gold Coast, so it's pretty exciting seeing Australia through new eyes.

    Kia kaha,

    Mark
